By the time summer arrives and plants have had time to develop for good after their winter hibernation, probably the most beautiful time of the year arrives - spring. It is during these few months, from March to even early June, that shrubs and trees flower and prepare for fruiting.

If you have a garden, or even a small plot of land, it is a good idea to arm yourself with the most necessary tools with the help of which the greenery can develop to its full potential.

Which plants should be pruned and when?
Work should already begin in early spring. It is a good idea to sense the moment when the weather is stable but the first leaves have not yet appeared on the branches. At first, the apple trees should attract attention in the garden (this is where pruning starts). This is followed by pear trees, plum trees, apricot trees and nectarine trees. It is not advisable to take care of cherries in spring - these are fruit trees that are better focused on in summer, as they are most vulnerable to frost.

Spring is also the time of year when you cut back around 15 to a maximum of 30 cm on the branches of roses, shrub hydrangeas (and bouquet hydrangeas), clematis or Japanese thymes. However, before you start gardening in earnest, make sure which plant species you have and which time of year is recommended for their care.

Garden shears

A basic type of garden tool that should not be missing, regardless of the area of green space and the experience of the gardener himself. Handheld shears are the most popular, but increasingly gardeners are opting for battery or petrol versions. This choice is usually dictated by the size of the hedge. However, shears can also be used for lawns, shrubs or trees. When choosing a model for yourself, always be guided by its quality, but also by its weight and blade spacing.

Secateurs

Comfortable to use, pruning shears with telescopic arms or handy, small-sized ones for quick tasks - these are tools whose main purpose is to efficiently shorten stems or remove small branches. A good pruning shear will do the job for shrubs, smaller trees, flowers and even vegetable seedlings. A good pruning shear is built to last, and one with retractable arms will enable you to reach those hard-to-reach places. Choose one-handed, two-handed or pole pruning shears. VERTO brand offers many models with ergonomic handles and high-quality blades.

Garden saws

Flaking saws, bow saws or small folding saws are another type of tool you can hardly do without in the garden. They are designed for efficient cutting of wet and dry wood and will therefore prove their worth in all conditions, even the most demanding.

When choosing a saw, it is worth looking at its number of teeth per inch - the smaller the teeth it has, the more precise the cut it will offer. The TPI, or number of teeth per specific area of the tool, may also be preferential. The saw material itself will also be important. The VERTO brand offers high-quality models that will last for many seasons of intensive work.

Axes and machetes

For larger needs, reach for larger calibre tools. Both axes and machetes will come in handy for removing diseased or dead trees. VERTO brand tools can easily deal with voluminous and hard surface plants. Thanks to them it is also possible to bring order in the garden and prepare firewood.

Choose from axes and machetes with long or shorter handles made of durable materials. The tools are also offered with blades of various shapes and weights. Thanks to the wide variety, you can match the type of axe to your needs.

Mowers

Which lawnmower should you choose for your garden? Their wide choice can probably give the less experienced green enthusiast a headache. It's not just the proven brand and the performance of the machine that should be taken into account. The area of land you have will also be an important factor in this case.

Hand mowers are the perfect type of tool for small plots of land. They are easy to store as they don't take up much space, and the ability to start up quickly encourages regular lawn cutting. Petrol or cordless mowers, on the other hand, will work well for larger gardens. The ability to collect grass clippings inside the machine, comfort when manoeuvring and the option to set the appropriate cutting height are just a few of the conveniences they can offer.

Trimmers and scythes

For more challenging terrain, consider buying a trimmer. These are machines that are great at cutting grass close to the edges of pavements or flowerbeds, for example. They make it possible, with precision work, to achieve an image of an aesthetically pleasing and well-kept garden.

Scythes they may visually resemble the aforementioned trimmers, brushcutters nevertheless replace lawnmowers wherever there is more challenging terrain. They can perfectly cope with vegetation on undulating surfaces, with numerous uneven areas, holes or depressions. They also work well on plots that are not mown regularly. They quickly deal with tall weeds or rhizomes.

We recommend petrol or electric powered scythes. In our range you will find a wide selection of garden tools for spring and every other season.
